Swan Lake is the definitive work of classical ballet — performed by Classical Ballet Multimedia since the company's founding, and continuously reimagined across forty-five years of performance.
Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 1877 — and initially failed. The definitive version, choreographed by Petipa and Ivanov, premiered posthumously at the Mariinsky in 1895. That production established the template for every Swan Lake that followed.
The Royal Ballet's 1963 production with Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn established the dramatic and technical benchmark for the twentieth century. Their partnership redefined what Swan Lake could be — an emotional event as much as a technical one.
The company's first Swan Lake Multimedia production debuted in Vienna to critical acclaim. The projection of the lake scene across the full theatre — breaking the proscenium boundary — was described by one critic as 'the most complete immersion in classical ballet ever achieved.'
The 2027–2028 Swan Lake opens in December in Vienna. The new production features a fully redesigned lake scene, expanded multimedia integration, and a new ending — Odette's apotheosis rendered in light across all surfaces of the venue simultaneously.
