History of the Production

Forty-five years of
unbroken excellence.

The Nutcracker has been performed by Classical Ballet Multimedia since the company's founding — evolving through decades of innovation while the Tchaikovsky score remains inviolate.

1892

The World Premiere

Tchaikovsky's score premiered at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, choreographed by Lev Ivanov. The libretto was adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann's tale by Marius Petipa. The combination of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier became an instant icon of classical ballet.

1954

The American Tradition

George Balanchine's New York City Ballet production transformed The Nutcracker into a beloved Christmas tradition in the United States. His reimagining — placing greater focus on Marie and the Kingdom of Sweets — influenced every production that followed.

1979

Classical Ballet Multimedia Founded

The company staged its first Nutcracker Multimedia production in Vienna, combining classical technique with pioneering stage technology. The snow scene — projected across a 40-metre stage — drew audiences from twelve countries.

2026

The Current Season

The 2026–2027 production features a newly commissioned multimedia environment designed for each venue city. Opening in December 2026 in Vienna, the tour will visit Berlin, Paris, London, Warsaw, and Prague.
